Easter – Paschal Triduum (Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday)
The date of Easter is determined by the northward Equinox (when the Sun crosses the equator heading north, the beginning of Spring in the northern hemisphere) and the next full Moon, so Easter Sunday falls in a range of dates from 22 March to 25 April. The three main parts of the Paschal Triduum (Paschal Three Days) are Holy Thursday evening’s Mass of the Lord’s Supper, then Good Friday afternoon’s commemoration of the Passion of the Lord, and Holy Saturday night’s Paschal Vigil and Mass is the beginning of Easter Sunday.
Please note, the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday is Holy Saturday; no weddings or other sacraments are celebrated on this day. Easter Saturday is the one after Easter Sunday, and weddings can be celebrated that day.
Mass times for Easter Sunday differ to normal Sundays; please see the current liturgy calendar to see the actual times.
Weddings on the Easter weekend
Weddings cannot be celebrated on Good Friday or Holy Saturday. While they may take place on Easter Sunday, the priests and deacons may not be available due to their liturgical obligations across the region. Please do not makes plans for a wedding on Easter Sunday without first confirming that a priest or deacon is actually available.
